Condolences to Paul’s family & loved ones. I shall forever remember his wicked sense of humour during our time at the Belfast School of Music in 1980. In these last few weeks, his sense of peace & gratitude for the happiness in his life has been such an inspiration. May he rest in peace.

Sending my most sincere condolences to Paul’s wife, family and friends at this terribly sad time. I knew Paul way back in the 80s, through the Belfast Youth Orchestra. He was always great fun, full of banter and craic, and I’m so grateful to have been in touch with him once again before his passing.
You are all in my prayers during this difficult time.

Mr Paul Downey one of life’s true gentlemen with an amazing ability as a Consultant Endo Urologist. It was my great privilege to have been given the opportunity to work with you. Your patients and staff within your theatre meant so much to you, you always treated them with respect and dignity and they loved you in return. Paul sadly you were called to your eternal home much too soon and you will be greatly missed by Janet , your entire family and all who knew you.
Goodbye my good friend sleep in peace.

My sincere sympathy to Paul’s wife, family and friends. I worked as his secretary in Causeway Hospital and admired his care and communication with patients both verbally and in letters. He also was very grateful to colleagues for all their help in caring for patients. As we all know he had an incredibly quick sense of ‘wit’ and called himself the plumber!
As a colleague he was highly skilled in Endo Urology, but he was also a gentleman with a very kind heart.
    In my thoughts and prayers.

This is sad news indeed. It was a pleasure working with Paul in South Manchester where he made a big contribution to the development of Endo-Urology. We had some good times professionally and socially and we were sorry when he decided to move back to Northern Ireland.
Please give my sincere condolences to Janet and all of Paul’s family. He was clearly well thought of wherever he worked and lived.

Just learnt about the death of my best mate Paul from Medical School. He was everything you would look for in a friend in,/ Medicine. Great laugh when you were up or down, rock solid in build, stature and action when physical trouble raised it’s head, dark and handsome Irishman who attracted the opposite gender, whom I provided a shoulder to cry on when he took home, a very kind gentleman always willing to console and so much much more.
I hadn’t seen much of Paul after 3rd. M.B., yet he appeared from nowhere at our house to break the news that I had failed my final M.B. I knew that Paul wanted to be with me at that moment and only Paul knew what to bring along as a consoling gift. That was my Paul. I wish I could have I been there for you, Paul when Our Lord called. As we use to say to each other, ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’.
    Love you, Paul.
P.S. Keep my place in heaven next to yours.
